2012 Hyundai Equus Price, Review, Specs

2012 Hyundai Equus Price, Review, Specs, what car reviews, Hyundai’s flagship 2012 Hyundai Equus successfully competes with the best sedans in the world, while adding a new level of customer experience to luxury car ownership. Since its introduction, Equus has outpaced its sales and market share expectations.

Enhancements to the 2012 model build upon this momentum. Most notably, the 2012 Hyundai Equus will now feature Hyundai’s most powerful engine ever, the new direct injection 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine. The new engine produces 429 horsepower and is mated to a new in-house eight-speed transmission providing 2012 Hyundai Equus drivers more power and refinement.

2012 Hyundai Equus

2012 Hyundai Equus specs

The 5.0-liter cylinder bore was increased from 92 mm to 96 mm for a total displacement of 5.0 liters (5,038cc). In addition to the large displacement, direct injection technology has been added. This high-pressure direct injection system (over 2,200 psi) dramatically increases power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Compression ratio has been increased from 10.4 to 11.5:1 for greater thermal efficiency and output. The Tau also receives a revised bed plate for improved block rigidity and lower NVH as well as camshaft carriers and a roller timing chain to improve valvetrain stability.

This new V8 engine still offers all of the premium engine technology from the 4.6-liter V8, including Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT), a tuned variable induction system, and low-friction diamond-like coatings (DLC) on piston skirts, rings and tappets. Even with these impressive power increases, fuel economy is estimated at 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined.

The Tau 5.0-liter V8 engine is coupled with a new Hyundai-developed eight-speed transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift capability. The new transmission adds two additional ratios to enhance acceleration, shifting smoothness, and transmission efficiency by more than six percent compared to last year’s six-speed.

PREMIUM REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE ARCHITECTURE
2012 Hyundai Equus is the third rear-wheel-drive product in Hyundai’s lineup and boasts an excellent 52/48 front-to-rear weight distribution for exceptional handling and more refined steering characteristics. 2012 Hyundai Equus reduces interior noise levels and improves ride and handling with a stiff, light-weight body structure. The use of high-tensile steel in critical areas throughout the unibody provides 2012 Hyundai Equus with significantly higher dynamic torsional rigidity and a lower body structure weight, despite having a spacious interior cabin.

LUXURY SEDAN STYLE WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES
The design of the 2012 Hyundai Equus is handsome and pleasing to the eye. The rear-end treatment is progressive with bold taillights, strong shoulders and an overall look of precision. This look is accomplished through fully-integrated asymmetrical exhaust tips and rear LED turn signal indicators. The side silhouette is refined, with character lines that accent the rear fenders and a new satin chrome side window daylight opening finish.

Upfront is a subtle horizontal radiator grille and well-proportioned headlamps with jeweled detailing. LED turn signals are inside the HID headlamps along with an adaptive front lighting system with white LED position lamps. The lower air intakes are bold and add to the positive reaction of the overall design. To assist in parking and navigating blind corners and alleys in urban driving, there is an optional forward-view cornering camera integrated into the grille.

2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring Price, Review, Specs

2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring Price, Review, Specs, what car reviews, The Elantra Touring is Hyundai’s compact 5-door hatchback that joined the Hyundai lineup for 2009 alongside the Elantra sedan that was redesigned for the 2007 model year. The Elantra Touring is based on the i30 CW model designed for the European market and is the first compact 5-door with standard Electronic Stability Control. Compact and functional with a practical 5-door hatchback design, the Elantra Touring features sport suspension, responsive steering and available 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels for sporty driving dynamics.

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring may have Elantra in its name, but it’s not to be confused with Hyundai’s handsomely styled four-door sedan. “Touring” indicates that it’s a hatchback, and a pretty good one in fact. However, the Touring is actually based on the previous-generation Elantra, and while it has many virtues, this hatchback can’t boast the new Elantra sedan’s many new strong suits.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring is a four-door hatchback available in two trim levels. Standard equipment on the base GLS model includes 15-inch steel wheels, heated outside mirrors, full power accessories, keyless entry, air-conditioning, a tilt-only steering wheel, cloth upholstery, 60/40 split-folding rear seats and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, an iPod/USB audio interface and satellite radio. Opting for the Preferred package gets you 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, cruise control, driver seat height and lumbar adjustment, upgraded cloth upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, a trip computer and a retractable cargo cover.

The SE trim level includes the Preferred package items, but adds 17-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, a sunroof, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and heated front seats. SE models with the manual transmission get a sport shifter.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine with an output of 138 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a four-speed automatic is an option.

The EPA estimates fuel economy at 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 26 mpg for combined driving with a manual transmission, while automatic-transmission models get 23/30/26 mpg.

Safety

All 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring models include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.

Interior Design and Special Features

While the Elantra Touring’s interior was always pleasant enough in a utilitarian sort of way, Hyundai — and many of its competitors — have raised the bar significantly. As such, the cabin’s lack of style really makes it stand out in a crowd, and not in a good way. From a purely functional perspective, though, the dashboard’s simple gauges and controls are easy to see and operate.

The cabin gets good marks in terms of space, with adult-sized headroom and legroom in both the front and rear seats. Not surprisingly there’s an abundance of cargo room here too, including 24 cubic feet with the rear seats up and an impressive 65 cubic feet with them folded down — a number that’s on par with some small crossover SUVs.

Driving Impressions

The one place it’s possible to put the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring’s shortcomings aside is on the road. Though the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine’s 138-hp output may not sound all that impressive, it manages to feel a lot more sprightly than that number might suggest. That said, the engine does sound a bit strained when pushed hard.

Another pleasant surprise is the nicely tuned suspension, which produces good handling, though the steering feels a little too light. The combination of decent ride quality and a quiet cabin only add to the overall driving experience.

2012 Hyundai Genesis Price, Review, Specs

2012 Hyundai Genesis Price, Review, Specs, what car reviews, The Genesis is Hyundai’s rear-wheel-drive sedan that first took Hyundai upscale to compete with entry-luxury sport sedans. Powered by V6 or V8 engines, Hyundai describes the Genesis as delivering the interior luxury of top European luxury sedans, world-class driving dynamics and the latest high-tech features at the price of entry-level premium brand vehicles. Hyundai has built a solid reputation with inexpensive, practical vehicles that offer a high level of content and with the Genesis Hyundai looks to move the brand up-market.

The Hyundai Genesis is aptly named. Although the Korean automaker’s luxury sedan isn’t creating a new segment from scratch, it has created a category in which performance, power, luxury and comfort exist in balance with incredible value. Simply put, no other car offers so much for so little as the 2012 Hyundai Genesis.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis is a full-size, rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan available in 3.8, 4.6 and 5.0 R-Spec trim levels (the numbers denote engine displacement).

The Genesis 3.8 comes standard with 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, heated mirrors, a sunroof, keyless ignition/entry, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat (includes power lumbar), a four-way power passenger seat, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a tilt steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth and a seven-speaker sound system with CD player, satellite radio, auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB interface.

The Premium package adds 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, automatic wipers, power-folding side mirrors, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, leather dash and door trim, driver memory functions, a power rear sunshade, a rearview camera, a navigation system with real-time traffic, a 7-inch touchscreen interface and a 14-speaker Lexicon surround-sound system with a CD/DVD player.

The Technology package adds or supplements Premium package equipment with adaptive HID headlights, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a lane-departure warning system, an electronic parking brake, upgraded leather upholstery, a ventilated driver seat, heated rear seats, an enhanced Bluetooth system, a rotary-knob based multimedia interface with 8-inch display, and a 17-speaker Lexicon audio system with HD radio and an in-dash six-CD/DVD changer.

The Genesis 4.6 includes Premium and Technology features as standard equipment but substitutes a wood-trimmed steering wheel for a leather-wrapped piece. The Genesis 5.0 R-Spec incorporates all Premium and Technology package features, plus 19-inch wheels and sport-tuned transmission, suspension and steering. High-performance summer tires are optional on the R-Spec.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 gets a 3.8-liter direct-injected V6 that produces 333 hp and 291 pound-feet of torque. Like every Genesis, rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control are standard. Based on testing of last year’s less powerful Genesis 3.8, we expect the 2012 version to hit 60 mph in about 6 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg city/29 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined.

The Hyundai Genesis 4.6 features a 4.6-liter V8 good for 378 hp and 324 lb-ft of torque with regular gas, and 385 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque with premium. Estimated fuel economy is 17/26/20.

The Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec joins the lineup with a 5.0-liter direct-injected V8 making 429 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque.

Safety

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis comes standard with antilock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, active front head restraints, front and rear side airbags and side curtain airbags. Parking sensors, lane-departure warning and a rearview camera are optional on the 3.8 and standard on the 4.6 and 5.0 R-Spec.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, meanwhile, awarded the Genesis the best possible score of “Good” in its frontal offset, side and roof strength tests.

Interior Design and Special Features

If not for the sweeping “H” logo on the Genesis’ steering wheel, most people would likely think they’re driving a Lexus. This is especially true of the fully loaded model, which offers a full complement of modern comforts and conveniences wrapped in interior materials that feel rich and well-built. The Genesis cabin clearly takes aim at the Japanese luxury standard-bearer, as even the crisp, bright electroluminescent gauges have a Lexus-like appearance.

Controls are well laid out throughout the Genesis price and trim range, while the task of commanding the more complicated available electronic systems — included with navigation — is accomplished with either a touchscreen or control knob and visual display. We wish there were stereo preset buttons with the latter setup, however, as it can take awhile to click and turn your way to the radio station you want. The multi-speaker Lexicon sound systems are also very impressive, with the 17-speaker version being one of the best systems found in any car at any price.

Befitting a luxury touring car, the front seats of the Genesis provide plenty of comfort for both driver and passenger on longer trips. The same can be said of the rear seats, which offer optional heaters, in addition to the ample head- and legroom afforded backseat passengers. The rear seats don’t fold down for additional cargo space, but a pass-through feature accommodates longer items that won’t fit in the 15.9-cubic-foot trunk.

Driving Impressions

The soft ride of most 2012 Hyundai Genesis models is a good indicator of the car’s luxury intentions, and thankfully it lacks the disconnected float that characterizes some other sleepy cruisers. When called upon, the Genesis can perform evasive maneuvers predictably and with little drama. Steering doesn’t provide much feedback, but it’s reasonably precise and suits the car’s purpose. Thanks to extensive sound insulation, the Genesis is also a remarkably quiet car.

Engine power also more evenly matches other premium brands, with Genesis V6 and V8 models delivering smooth and linear acceleration. The new 5.0 R-Spec is just downright fast, matching the acceleration potential of V8-powered sport sedans that cost thousands more. However, unlike its regular Genesis counterparts, the R-Spec suffers a firm ride over broken pavement that sets it apart in a bad way from those aforementioned sport sedans.

2012 Hyundai Veracruz Price, Review, Specs

2012 Hyundai Veracruz Price, Review, Specs, what car reviews, The Veracruz is Hyundai’s midsize crossover which made its debut at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. Hyundai positions the Veracruz as an alternative to luxury crossovers with a starting price less than $30,000. Longer and wider than the Santa Fe, the Veracruz comes standard with three rows of seats for seven passengers. With a solid and smooth stance, the front of the Veracruz houses the Hyundai flying-H logo complemented by wraparound headlights. The rear fascia blends into the sides of the taillights with a rear spoiler and dual chrome exhaust tips for a sporty look.

The 2012 Hyundai Veracruz SUV is unchanged from the 2011 version. The proud lines make it look ready to go anywhere and very pleasing to look at. It has a kind of pent up but relaxed grace. The Veracruz is very good value for money for a large family with all the baggage that entails. There are two editions on sale, the GLS and the limited one. The main differences are all in the engines and performance.

The Hyundai Veracruz SUV is extraordinarily quiet. The aerodynamic design keeps wind noise and drag to a minimum. The Hyundai Veracruz SUV got full marks in the 2010 crash tests ratings. The third row of seats is comfortable enough for little people but is less roomy than many other crossover vehicles in the same market sector. Eighty Seven cubic feet is a little on the small size for cargo when compared to a full SUV and even many crossovers but with careful loading it can be enough for a family car.

The Hyundai Veracruz SUV will take you and seven friends plus luggage in comfort and at speed on a rural adventure because its driven by a 260 horsepower 3.8L 24-valve, DOHC, V6 engine. Fuel efficiency comes from the Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) so it as suited to the town as it is the rougher terrain. The six speed automatic transmission, ‘Shiftronic’ pushes the front wheel drive for versatile steering and burns 17 mpg in town.

It also comes in four wheel drive models with slightly worse fuel consumption of 16mpg. The Hyundai Veracruz SUV is stacked with driver servo mechanisms as standard fittings. For example the Bluetooth hands free cell phone interface, AM/FM/XM /CD/MP3 stereo with 6 loudspeakers, USB port and auxiliary plug; ecology conscious CFC-free air con and rear zone adjustors for the two rear rows ventilation ducts. The tilting and telescoping, leather-bound steering wheel with remote speaker system controls empowers the driver to command of the whole of the vehicles internal environment. Front active headrest restraints are a safety feature that prevent whiplash from sudden stops. Heated front seats are a must with leather upholstery in the winter and with such a big car the reverse parking assistant technology keeps the rear end in mint condition.

2012 Hyundai Veloster Price, Review & PictureNew Car Reviews, The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is an all-new model offered by Hyundai. The small hatchback has an added third door on the passenger side for easier access to the back seat. The Veloster features a multi-function seven-inch touch screen display, which is equipped with Pandora Internet radio, video game connectivity, and hands-free Bluetooth. The all-new 1.6-liter engine gets up to 40 mpg, better highway fuel efficiency than the hybrid Honda CR-Z.

The Hyundai Veloster debuts this year. This cutting-edge three-door hatchback will bring even more competition to the already crowded compact coupe class. The Veloster features a unique third door on the passenger side for easier rear-seat access. Also included in this boldly styled coupe is Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system, Pandora Internet radio with a seven-inch touch screen display. 2011 Hyundai Azera Price, Review & Picture

2011 Hyundai Azera Price, Review & PictureNew Car Reviews, The 2011 Azera receives more power in each V-6: the 3.3-liter gets 26 more horses for a total of 260; the 3.8-liter gains 20 horsepower for 283. Both engines now use an in-house six-speed automatic. There’s a new grille, bumper, headlights, and foglights, plus a revised rear end. There are also redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels and minor styling changes in the cabin.

The Azera by Hyundai is hardly noticed by car buyers because it has similar issues that the Sonata seems to have; this vehicle is a nice value and the car is dependable, however, it is seemingly invisible in the market today. The Azera was the flagship of the carmaker in 2006, but now it is positioned between the Sonata and the Genesis, making it a vehicle that is always forgotten.

After its début, the Azera endured many changes and some of those alterations have minimized the vehicle’s life cycle. After the entry of the Genesis, the new and enhanced Azera offering better transmissions, style, and decent engines was overshadowed by the Genesis’s entry, the Equus and the enhanced Sonata.

The Azera is definitely a nice buy for the consumer looking for value; this car has a 3.8 Liter V-6 or the 3.3 Liter V-6 motor married to a six-speed auto tranny in all models for 2011. The Azera’s cabin is luxurious for a vehicle of this class, and it drives more like a highway cruising vehicle than a canyon carver.

The 2011 Azera looks a lot like last year’s model, except that the front end looks fresh and crisp. The most distinctive design cue on this model is the side lines above the rear fenders. Cloth eight-way power seats are standard with the GLS; the Limited gets leather, heated seats. There are wood- and metalgrain accents in both models, but the center console trim has changed for 2011 from grained metal to smooth.

The Azera isn’t meant to have sport sedan performance, but there’s relatively little body roll and the ride is comfortable. During instrumented testing, the 2010 Azera 3.8-liter Limited model moved from 0-to-60 in 6.5 seconds, and through the quarter mile in 15.0 seconds at 94.9 mph, numbers that are sure to improve for 2011.

Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake-force distribution is standard; so are brake assist, traction control, and stability control. Eight airbags are standard: dual front, driver and front-passenger side-impact, rear side-impact, and front/rear side-curtain airbags.

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Price, Review & Picture

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Price, Review & PictureNew Car Reviews, There is a new trim level for 2011: the R-Spec. For the 2.0-liter four equipped car, it replaces the Track model. With the 3.8-liter V-6, it becomes the new standard model, replacing the 3.8 Base. In addition, the manual transmission is no longer available the 2.0T Premium or the 3.8 Grand Touring. All models receive soft-touch materials in the cabin and softer armrests.

When word spread about the development of the Genesis Coupe by Hyundai, consumers became a bit curious about the vehicle and wondered what would make it a success in the American Market. The Genesis Coupe was expected to be a rear drive, midsized sports car and when the Tiburon front-drive failed to meet sales expectations, car buyers wondered what Hyundai was thinking in offering the Genesis.

The Genesis sport coupe was new. It’s platform was different, and the car’s wheelbase was 110 inches. It’s body was 182.3 inches in all. This forced the Genesis right into the segment that the Ford Mustang dominated. The coupe housed either a 3.8 Liter engine with 306 horsepower or a turbocharged, intercooled 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine with 210 horsepower.

The 2011 model comes in several trims including the R-Spec, the Grand Touring, and the 2.0T. The R-Spec and Touring have a 3.8 Liter V-6 engine. The smaller motors are less expensive but they offer less power as well. If seeking additional power under the hood, the price tag increases for bigger motor options.

This sport coupe is fairly large (111.0-inch wheelbase, 182.3-inches long overall), making it close in size to a Mustang. Its most distinctive styling cue is the curved notch at the bottom of each side window. The Genesis Coupe has room for four people (although rear seat room is compromised), and its styling options inside range from youthful and sporty to more upscale. Leather is available and tasteful metal-grain accents are used throughout. Navigation and 10-speaker audio are available.

The 3.8-liter engine is by far the better option here; not only is it a more powerful, but it’s more refined, too. And when equipped with the manual transmission, the 3.8-liter is an especially fun drive. The automatic transmission equipped models are not nearly as engaging, even when using the manual mode. Steering is responsive, and the 3.8-liter engine propels the Coupe to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds (6.8 with the 2.0T).

Driver and front passenger airbags, seat-mounted side airbags, and window curtain airbags are standard. So are stability control, traction control, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution and Brake assist, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
