2012 Chevrolet Traverse Price, Review, Specs, what car reviews, For 2012, the Traverse undergoes no major changes. On the outside, the Traverse treads on the more conservative side when it comes to style, with subtly contoured sides and Chevy’s corporate grille dominating the front.

The Traverse’s styling is inoffensive. It suits the mission, we suppose, but there’s not much excitement in the mildly contoured shape, nothing of the flair that you’d find in the chunky, trucklike GMC Acadia and flowing, curvilinear Buick Enclave that share the Traverse’s platform. The Chevy’s simple, elegant, even spare, and that has its own charm. The design influence from other Chevy products is clear, especially up front where a Malibu-like split grille sits tall. The lack of detail makes the rear end of the Traverse as forgettable as any minivan, though, and the same holds true for the interior–it’s functional, but not exciting, by any means, and the sheets of hard, dull plastic that wrap the dash and doors could use an upgrade.

The Traverse is Chevrolet’s full-size crossover SUV with seating for up to eight occupants. Based on the same architecture as the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, the Traverse incorporates design cues from the Malibu sedan. The Traverse offers the passenger and cargo capacity of larger SUV with better fuel-efficiency due to a 3.6-liter V6 with direct-injection technology and towing capacity of 5,200 lbs.

Fuel economy estimates for the 2012 Traverse check in at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway (opting for all-wheel drive drops each of these figures by one respectively). Chevy claims that the Traverse’s highway fuel economy is the highest to be found in any eight-passenger crossover.

The well-equipped interior features two front bucket seats and two different seating configurations for the second and third row seats, accommodating a maximum of eight passengers. An efficient, direct injection 3.6-liter V6 engine is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Traverse comes in three trim levels: the LS, the LT and the LTZ. Each trim is available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The interior of the Traverse retains the two-tone color scheme that seems to be making its way around Chevy of late. Depending on your choice of a second-row bench or captain’s chairs, seating capacity is seven or eight. The Traverse is well equipped in all forms, with standard features like cruise control, rear climate control, satellite radio, auxiliary input jack, and power windows/locks. Optional equipment like automatic climate control, a rear entertainment system, navigation system, Bluetooth® connectivity, and heated front seats help to keep everyone comfortable and entertained on long trips. An available power lift gate is another convenience which means you don’t have to set down packages or children to open the back.

The 2012 Chevrolet Traverse offers great fuel economy which will make drivers happy, and plenty of interior features which will make the passengers smile as well.

One of the safest vehicles on the road today, the 2012 Traverse earns nearly perfect crash-test scores. Overall, the NHTSA gives it five stars, with a four-star rating for front impacts and five for side impacts. The IIHS names it a Top Safety Pick, too. Along with standard airbags, anti-lock brakes and traction control, Bluetooth and parking sensors, the Traverse can be fitted with a rearview camera, to help with its middling visibility to the rear quarters.

All 2012 Traverse crossovers come with a tilt/telescopic wheel; power windows, locks and mirrors; cruise control; Bluetooth; and an AM/FM/XM/CD sound system. Major options include the rearview camera; a power liftgate; heated and cooled front seats; and a DVD entertainment system. The top-spec LTZ can be equipped with 20-inch aluminum wheels; a rear spoiler; dual exhausts; and a panoramic sunroof.
