2012 Audi R8 Specs :
The R8 GT and its new topless counterpart looked to its parent company’s high-performance brand, Lamborghini, as the source for a new level of motivation. The race-inspired Lamborghini-derived 5.2-liter V-10 features an aluminum crankcase, dry-sump lubrication, and direct fuel injection for a prodigious 560 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. With only 6.46 pounds for every unit of horsepower, the R8 GT Spyder catapults from zero to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 197 mph. The zero-to-62 time is only 0.2 of a second shy of the R8 GT coupe and still 0.2 of a second faster than the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, which carries the same engine. The R8 GT comes standard with a six-speed automated manual gearbox that Audi has dubbed R tronic. It offers two automatic modes and a manual mode with shifts activated by paddles on the steering wheel or with a flick of the gear lever. Audi says the unit in the R8 GT can swap gears in a little as 100 milliseconds.
The Audi R8 GT Spyder employs some of the weight-saving techniques found on the coupe and a few new methods to shave 187 pounds from the R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI, the car from which it is based. The R8 GT Spyder doesn’t go as far as the R8 GT coupe, which trims 220 pounds from the R8 5.2 FSI coupe, but still makes extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) to reduce weight. The front apron, fixed rear spoiler, rear bumper, top of the convertible compartment, and the large side panels at the rear of the car are all made of CFRP. Inside, new glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bucket seats save nearly 70 pounds.
Other modifications include a revised suspension, which lowers the car by 0.39 of an inch, and standard carbon fiber ceramic brakes for fade-free stopping. The GT Spyder retains the R8’s Quattro all-wheel drive with rear-wheel bias.
