2011 Lincoln MKX Review – Lincoln – Ford’s luxury brand – has been mostly hiding out of sight until recently as Lincoln has now taken the wraps off of its heavily revised mid-size luxury crossover, the MKX. At first glance, and possibly also from a slight distance, the side profile of the latest Lincoln MKX may appear virtually unchanged from the outgoing model. However, upon closer inspection one should find that the MKX has been reworked front to back, top to bottom, inside and out. The MKX has retained its basic silhouette, but the fine lines, details and design cues provide a fresher, cleaner and arguably more sophisticated look and feel.
Compared to the outgoing model, the MKX has gained some noteworthy technologies, such as a new 3.7-liter V6. The new 3.7-liter Duratec V6 comes equipped with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) to increase horsepower and torque without a drop in fuel economy compared to the outgoing 3.5-liter V6. This new V6 provides best-in-class power and torque for a V6 – total horsepower rings in at 305 – a 15 percent bump, and torque totals 280 lb-ft. for a 12 percent improvement.
The new MKX also features a new six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, which delivers EPA certified best-in-class fuel economy in the city and highway. The new MKX achieves 19 city, and 26 miles per gallon on the highway – both figures being the best in their class.
The outgoing MKX featured an almost mesh-like grille, but Lincoln hopes that the all-new split-wing grille will give the MKX the style it needs to stand out as a luxury CUV.
When comparing the new MKX’s interior to the outgoing model, it is quite apparent that more attention, and frankly more resources and cost were poured into the design and materials for the latest interior. Inside you will find all-new leather-trimmed seats, comfort sections and a standard tuxedo stripe that are all part of the new Lincoln DNA.
Lincoln also offers two different wood accents – Olive Ash and Walnut Swirl – which extend from the steering wheel to the dashboard and doors. For those who do not find wood to represent luxury, Lincoln also offers a more modern aluminum accent package. Lincoln also reworked the brightwork on the air vents, added genuine stitching to the doors and incorporated softer armrests that feature upgraded materials.
The all-new Lincoln MKX is also the first vehicle to ever be equipped with the new MyLincoln interfacing system. MyLincoln will allow drivers and passengers to control virtually every aspect of the vehicle’s climate, entertainment and interfacing system from their choice of one of two 4.2-inch LCD screens, one 8-inch LCD screen, or voice commands prompted by the steering wheel controls.
